Thesis Work
Every day, we are constantly surrounded by advertisement images whether it is on a billboard, subway cart, posters, or social media. We see so many advertisements with a solid color background. Those are still great images, but I want to pursue that agenda even further.
Creating an intriguing and fantastical environment has been the heart of my photography. I believe that delivering the viewer a visual experience will enhance their 5 senses, making that image pop even more in their mind. After all, how a person takes in that image is based on their past experiences, emotions, feelings, likes/dislikes, etc. I think the best way to achieve this is with printed photo backgrounds. Although there are some advertisements out there that have printed backgrounds already, most of the time it is a random stock photo and a product in front of it. I want to take it a step further and have those printed backgrounds relate to the subject. The main subject is food.
Food is important to me because it is embedded in our culture and our everyday lives. We cannot survive without food. Food makes us emotional on the inside. It evokes this sense of feeling that we want to experience again and again (obviously when it is good). I want to showcase, not only just the food but the food and history, the culture, and the environment that the food is associated with. Demonstrating the culture, environment, and/or history with said print photo background can enhance people’s knowledge of the food and their 5 senses. It will enhance and play on their experience and memory.
